Project URLs

There are many ways to share your projects created on Crowdsignal. We offer a number of embed options to share your project on a WordPress site or any other website. Once published, every project also has a unique web address (URL) that you can share with participants to access the project directly.

The permalink portion of the URL (the part that appears after the slash /) will initially be assigned a random series of text and numbers. This random string will be replaced with a more readable permalink (also known as a slug) a couple of different ways.

When you publish a project, if you have set a title for your project, the random slug will be changed to match the title. If a project is published without a title, it will continue to use the random slug. If you subsequently add a title, the permalink will be updated to the title.

Once the permalink has been updated from the random slug to the title, it won’t be changed again even if you update the title.

The permalink can also be manually set. A custom slug will always take precedence over the title and can be completely different from the title. Once set, the permalink will not change unless you edit the permalink again. A custom permalink can be set whether or not the project has been published.

Use the following steps to set a custom permalink.

You will see the current project URL under the Summary section of the project settings sidebar. The URL will display even if the project is not yet published. Click the URL to open the URL settings.

If your post already has a permalink set, that will be displayed in the permalink field in the settings dialogue. If the project has been published, you will also see a link with your current project URL.

Type your new custom slug in the field to update it. Close the dialog and then click update (or save draft) to apply your changes.

There are a few things to keep in mind when updating permalinks:

  • permalinks can only contain letters, numbers and dashes. Any other characters will be removed, and spaces will be converted to dashes by our servers.

  • After updating your project, it may take a couple of additional seconds for the permalink displayed on the document settings sidebar to update to the new permalink
